The Difference Between Dry Abrasive Paper and Water Sandpaper

When people make objects, there are many details that need to be processed again later. For details, it is inevitable to cut and polish the raw materials. If you want to polish, you will naturally need abrasive paper.

According to the different raw materials, the abrasive paper selected is also different. The dry abrasive paper is used most frequently. Another kind of abrasive paper that is easier to use is water sandpaper. There are huge differences between the two kinds of abrasive paper. So here we will introduce the difference between dry abrasive paper and water sandpaper on the market. We hope it will be helpful for you to choose dry abrasive paper.

1. Product characteristics of dry abrasive paper

The dry abrasive paper uses synthetic resin as a binder, bonds silicon carbide abrasives on the latex, and coats it with an antistatic coating, which is a high-end product with advantages of anti-clogging, anti-static, good softness, and high wear resistance. It is available in a variety of fineness, suitable for sanding metal surfaces, putties, and coatings.

Dry abrasive paper is generally made of special kraft paper and latex paper, with natural and synthetic resins used as binders, which are manufactured by advanced high static sand planting technology. This product has advantages of high grinding efficiency, not easy to stick scraps, etc, which is suitable for dry grinding and is widely used in furniture, decoration and other industries, especially the rough grinding.

2. The difference between dry abrasive paper and water sandpaper

The gap between the sand grains of the water sandpaper is small, and the grinding powder is also small. When used with water, the powder will flow out with the water, so it should be used with water. If the water sandpaper is used for dry grinding, the powder will be ground, the grinding powder will remain in the gaps of the sand grains, making the surface of the abrasive paper smoother, which then cannot achieve the desired effect.

The dry abrasive paper is not so troublesome. The gap between the sand grains is large, and the grinding powder is also large. During the grinding process, thanks to the large gap, the grinding powder will fall off, so it does not need to be used with water. In terms of the selection of dry abrasive paper and water sandpaper, it depends on the thickness to be sanded. Water sandpaper is slower but can make the objects smoother (the finer water sandpaper is, the slower the process and the smoother the object is), while dry abrasive paper is faster, but the object is not so smooth (the thicker the dry abrasive paper, the faster the object is polished). If you don't need to grind too much, use water sandpaper. If you want to grind a lot, use dry abrasive paper first, and then use water sandpaper to polish it (also depends on whether you want to polish it or not).

Although abrasive paper is only a special piece of paper, it plays a very important role. It can polish some items neatly without any traces. If some materials are not polished, they may scratch people. So it is necessary to deal with the details.

There are many differences between dry abrasive paper and water sandpaper. It depends on the objects we sand. If you want to use them well, you should first understand the difference between the two types of abrasive paper, and then figure out their application.
