Introduction to Two Common Types of Abrasive Paper

Abrasive paper is a material used for grinding. It is used to smooth the surfaces of metals, wood, and other materials. There are various types of abrasive paper based on the abrasive material used, such as diamond abrasive paper, artificial diamond abrasive paper, glass abrasive paper, and more. Dry abrasive paper (wood abrasive paper) is used to polish the surface of wood and bamboo products. Waterproof abrasive paper (water abrasive paper) is used to grind the surface of metal or non-metal workpieces in water or oil. The base paper is made of unbleached sulfite pulp, which is strong, durable, and resistant to wear and folding. It also has good water resistance. Abrasive materials such as glass sand are attached to the base paper using adhesives such as gum and then dried. Now, let's mainly discuss the two most widely used and highest market share types of abrasive paper.

Ordinary sheet abrasive paper

Ordinary abrasive paper uses cowhide paper/latex paper as the base material. Animal glue/synthetic resin glue is used as the adhesive, and artificial synthesizes or natural materials such as silicon carbide, brown corundum, and white corundum are used as the abrasive. It uses electrostatic sand planting technology to evenly arrange each sand grain on the surface of the paper coated with adhesive to ensure that each sand grain is equally sized. Then, synthetic resin glue is applied to the sand grains, and the sand grains are firmly adhered by high-temperature baking. The most common specification internationally is 230*280mm, and it is also called "sheet abrasive paper."

Currently, abrasive paper is roughly divided into three types based on usage method and product requirements: water abrasive paper, dry abrasive paper, and wet and dry abrasive paper. Depending on the material and purpose of the product, it is mainly used in fields such as mobile phone cases, camera cases, laptop computers, watch straps, watch cases, automobiles, high-end yachts, leather, printer rollers, mahogany furniture, steel descaling, and polishing of wall surfaces during decoration.

Sponge sandpaper

Sponge sandpaper is a high-end product in the abrasive product category. It is made of special sponge as the base material, and abrasive materials such as diamond sand, high-temperature silicon carbide, and white corundum are used. It is made using unique synthetic resin glue and electrostatic sand planting technology. It has ultra-strong grinding power and abrasion resistance, unique cutting force, and soft sponge material that effectively cushions the friction between sand grains and the surface of the product, thus avoiding scratches caused by sand grains. The electrostatic sand planting process ensures that each sand grain is uniformly arranged on the soft sponge material without any coarse sand, effectively repairing scratches generated during the initial polishing of the product. The unique diamond sand formula makes the polishing last longer, whether your product is uneven or scratched, sponge sandpaper can achieve a mirror-like effect.

Abrasive paper is a type of paper with abrasive particles adhered to it. It is used to level the surface of an object or remove substances attached to the surface (such as old paint) and sometimes to increase sliding friction. Abrasive paper is classified into different grades based on the level of smoothness to suit different purposes.
