Introduction and Uses of Abrasive Materials

1. Abrasive materials

Abrasive materials are the general term for coated abrasives, wire-drawing abrasives, and polishing abrasives, which mainly grind, wire-draw, and polish the surface of the workpiece. Abrasive materials generally have high hardness, toughness, and regular shape. Abrasive materials belong to the category of "hardware tools".

2. Types of abrasive materials

Abrasive materials belong to the category of "hardware tools". Abrasive tools in abrasive materials usually include other abrasives such as coated, nylon, and polishing types.

3. Use of abrasive materials

Substances used for material polishing can be used for polishing glass, metal, leather, semiconductor, plastic, gemstone, jade and stainless steel, etc.

For example, for glass polishing, powdered mixtures such as red iron oxide, tin dioxide, alumina, cerium oxide, barium carbonate, chalk, clay, and diatomaceous earth are used. The abrasive material is used after it is combined with water to form suspension.

The selection of the abrasive machine and the abrasive material must be combined with the characteristics of the workpiece for the surface abrasive and polishing of the workpiece.

For the surface abrasive and polishing of the workpiece, the conditions of the workpiece characteristics of the abrasive machine and polishing wheel should be taken into account. After the variety of the abrasive machine and polishing wheel is determined, the variety of abrasive materials can also be determined, that is, the positioning of the abrasive medium.

For polishing and abrasive materials, it mainly refers to the selection of abrasive medium, which is closely related to the material of the workpiece, because there are many varieties of main media in abrasive materials, such as brown corundum grinding and polishing abrasives, corncob abrasives, walnut shell abrasives, high-frequency porcelain abrasives, alumina abrasives, zirconium bead abrasives, steel balls, etc.

They have their own characteristics and adaptability. Proper use of abrasive materials can make the surface of the workpiece smooth and bright. If they are not used properly, they may not have the effect or may have the opposite effect, then the loss outweighs the gain.

Therefore, whether the selection of abrasive media is correct can directly play a decisive role in the quality of the workpiece surface. In addition to grinding and polishing abrasives, polishing slurry and polishing brightener are the keys to determining the surface quality of the workpiece.

For the abrasive and polishing of the workpiece, because of the different uses of the workpiece, the abrasive materials used are different. For example, the workpiece material can be metal and non-metal, but there are iron, steel, copper, zinc, aluminum and alloys, etc in metal.

So their characteristics are different, and the surface abrasive materials used should also be different. When we carry out the surface treatment of the workpiece, we must select the polishing and abrasive material that best meets the requirements of the workpiece according to the final characteristics and requirements of the workpiece.

If the material of the polished workpiece is a ferrous metal forging and casting, the corresponding abrasive material should be used for processing.

If the surface finish requirements of such workpieces are not high, you can choose grinding and polishing abrasives with hard texture, big grain size and slightly stronger cutting ability for deburring, such as brown corundum grinding and polishing abrasives, etc., so as to quickly remove burrs on the surface of the workpiece.

If the brown corundum polishing RMC abrasive is added with an appropriate amount of polishing slurry for processing, the surface of the workpiece will be ground faster and the surface will be smoother.

If the surface of the workpiece requires a high degree of finish, the grinding and polishing abrasives that can be selected should have a certain cutting ability when deburring and rounding edges. The density of the good polishing abrasives should be correspondingly higher and the particle size should be smaller. For example, the grinding and polishing RMC abrasives can be used for processing, so that the surface of the workpiece will be more delicate and smooth.

For example, when the surface of this kind of workpiece is finely polished, it is necessary to match it with an abrasive brightener and special abrasives for fine polishing that meets the requirements of the workpiece material, so as to meet the requirements of the workpiece surface being refined, fine, smooth and bright.
