Common Problems and Solutions in the Use of Abrasive Belts

Sometimes, all kinds of problems may occur during the use of abrasive belts. Here are some suggestions for self-inspection for your reference.

1. Wrinkling, tearing and deviation of abrasive belt when running on the machine: Check whether the length of abrasive belt is appropriate (the allowable error range of perimeter is 5mm). Check whether the perimeter difference between the two sides of the belt is too big (generally, the perimeter difference between the two sides is less than 5mm). Check whether the belt is distorted. A simple inspection method is to spread the abrasive belt on a flat ground and align the two sides of one end of the abrasive belt to see if the other end is distorted. Check whether there are foreign matters on the contact wheel of sanding machine, graphite pad of grinding plate and work piece to be processed. Check whether the cutting amount of the work pieces meets the requirements.

2. Blocking in abrasive belt grinding: It mostly occurs in the grinding of particleboard. The reason is that the wood oil content of particleboard is sometimes high. The sawdust is easy to stick to the surface of the abrasive belt during grinding, which makes the surface blocked, loses the grinding ability, and then burns. This situation generally occurs in a large area of the entire belt. During the production process of particleboard, due to the uneven mixing of the materials, the resin glue of particleboard sticks to some parts of the belt surface, resulting in local blockage and adhesion of the abrasive belt, which generally appears as local strips. In addition, in the grinding process of the sander, a small amount of sawdust is not taken away by the dust extraction airflow. A thin and intermittent linear sawdust flow is formed on the belt surface, which has little influence on the use of the abrasive belt.

3. Vibration marks and grooves on the surface of the processed plate: Check the thickness of the belt joint. The allowable error range of joint thickness is less than 0.10mm. It is a good way to use flat-joined abrasive belt to solve the problem. Check whether there are foreign matters on the contact wheel and the surface of abrasive belt.
